Interact with 3D models on Microsoft HoloLens 2

A guide to use 3D models as an input on procedures

This new feature provides Microsoft HoloLens 2 users the ability to import, view and interact with 3D models in Augmented Reality (AR). 3D models enable a more immersive experience for users allowing a better understanding of the size, scale, and details of the model.

The new feature involves a prior upload of the 3D model to the platform. To do this, you need to upload a file on the instructions input on issues templates. Supported files include: FBX, OBJ, GLB, PLY, STL, or glTF.

This new feature can be found in release note version: 0.64.00.

Open the 3D Model

When you have an input that has a 3D model available you will see the indication under the model saying "3D Model".

To render and open the 3D model, press the "3D Model" button.

Then, while the model is rendering, it will appear the loading indication on the screen.

After being rendered, the model will appear in front of the input.

Interact with the 3D Model

If you hold the model, you will be able to drag it to another position of your preference.

You can also resize it by holding a corner and dragging the corner.
